JNM Advisors was engaged to evolve the company’s finance infrastructure to support a significant expansion and explosive growth into new markets.  The key priorities were to develop an enhanced accounting and financial reporting process, develop weekly reports that track cash and KPIs at the client level, improve the finance staff level of expertise, and develop an improved budget model and process.
 
The assignment kicked off with a discovery session to review the current financials, the technology stack, operating processes, and the level of in-house expertise in accounting and FP&A.  The focus was to increase visibility on the financial health and operating performance of the company. The work plan covered a wide range of activities, including the following.
  • Developed new weekly and monthly financial reports with KPIs and other essential information at the site and client level.  Full P&Ls by office and client are now available. 

  • Developed and implemented new processes to produce the weekly cash/sales reports and a “new” monthly operating review.

  • Designed a new chart of accounts to track all necessary data that fit the business needs, including KPIs at the site and client level.

  • Reclassified 2019 and 2020 financials to the new chart of accounts to better understand trends in volume, pricing, and operating expenses.  The insight gained from these trends was essential to building the budget for 2021.

  • Reviewed the existing technology stack (Avionte, ADP, QuickBooks, SaasAnt) and implemented links to automate data transfers.

  • Developed and implemented new accounting (cash to accrual) and closing processes.

  • Developed a budget model that shows how to best scale the business through sensitivity analysis, modeling the impact of opening new offices, adding clients at various price levels, and staffing options.

  • Assisted in recruiting finance staff.

  • Trained finance staff to run the newly developed accounting and reporting tasks.
